Car arrived in good shape but an item was stolen

I shipped my 2008 Mazda3 from New Jersey to California and was nervous about it. I went with Ship-a-Car Direct because of their great reviews, and for the most part, they lived up to them.

I decided to include my coffee machine in the car before shipping it. I placed it on the floor behind the passenger seat and thought, "out of sight, out of mind." It was just a coffee machine, and I didn't think it would be STOLEN. But it was! When I got the car, the coffee machine was gone. The issue here isn't about the simple coffee machine, but about the fact that someone knowingly unlocked my car and stole an item from it. I was refined $30, but like I said, I lost a lot of trust in shipping my car because of this incident.

Other than the stolen item, my car came in decent shape. It was quite dirty (I had it waxed and cleaned before it was shipped). Another odd thing was that the air conditioning wasn't working. I had the car all checked out by a mechanic and everything was in tip-top shape before the carrier came to pick it up. I find it odd that the air conditioning suddenly doesn't work on a nearly-new car once it was delivered to me, when it had been working fine on the day of pickup. Also, my gas was half-full when it arrived. Before the carrier came to pick up the car, I brought it to the gas station so it would have a full tank of gas upon delivery. I know gasoline evaporates, but I almost get the feeling that someone went for a joy ride while my car was in their hands.

A really positive note is that the car came two full days early, which saved me some money on the rental car I had been using.

Thank you for your feedback, Laura. Glad to hear you car arrived quickly and in good shape but you bring up some important points that future shippers should know. We don't recommend leaving personal belongings in your vehicle. While your vehicle is insured for damage, any belongings are not insured or guarded. We also advise folks against filling the gas tank. Not only does gas evaporate, but for weight restrictions full tanks may have to syphoned. (Drivers do not have time to take personal vehicles on joyrides.)
