Protected Auto Carriers contacted me after I got a quote from another site. I had been bombarded by a bunch of callers and one of the first to call was Marley from Protected Auto Carriers. What I know now that I didnt know then (or even to ask) was that Protected Auto Carriers is basically a broker- they do not actually transport your car - they find someone else for that. So you pay them what they call a deposit of $150 which turns out to be the broker fee and you pay the balance of your payment to the driver of the actual company transporting your car. Had I known this I could have found a company that actually did the transporting and cut out the middle man cause it didnt make my life any easier. I asked for my car to be picked up Monday as I was moving and needed it so that I could pick up boxes and run last minute errands. I didnt hear any thing about the actual pick up time for days and left messages with the company that did not get promptly returned. I did not hear from them until the day before the car was actually picked up and even then I talked to someone else, not the guy I booked it with that said he would be available for any questions. The driver actually ended up coming on Sunday and told me that they were told by the broker that I needed them to come Sunday because I was flying out Monday. This was not true I was flying out Tuesday. I guess Protected told them this so that they would not be late on Monday, but I was not informed of this and was therefore car less for basically 2 days (all day Sunday and Monday) before my flight Tuesday and I lived a mile away from any food source. The guy from the actual truck company Cypress Auto Shipping was nice and got my car to its destination quickly. I would recommend if anyone is doing a cross country car shipment to use Cypress. I'm not saying Protected is this horrible company, they are fine I guess, I just dont think they are necessary. Dont use them if you are tight on money.
