It's not so much King of the Road, rather it's the broker's lack of screening their trucking companies. This broker is just like any other that doesn't screen their truckers for quality. I've used auto transportation many times and King of the Road's choice to select GTR Auto Transport (out of Maryland) was terrible. A couple things demonstrate just how bad these guys are.
1. GTR lied to the Lexus dealer on multiple occasions about their ETA. Auto truckers have a rep for lying to keep folks waiting and GTR played that card well. In this day of free GPS apps that calculate time and traffic, there's just no excuse. The multiple estimates were off by such a massive amount it was clear that their intent was to keep the dealer available until after closing.
2. The GTR trucker claimed they couldn't get to my road so they unloaded my car on a 45 MPH two-lane major road that offered no shoulder. I requested and the trucker refused to reload the car and move to a safer location. Really? So we were rushed to inspect the car as traffic drove past us at high speeds during the rush hour period. I signed the sheet and later found a few issues when I was able to properly inspect the car. My bad for allowing myself to be rushed and signing the inspection sheet on that main thoroughfare, I have to think this was part of the drivers strategy to rush the inspection Knowing he had caused issues with the car. Why else would someone do that to their customer?
Since theses guys were hired by King of the Road, I have to them accountable. Allowing truckers like GTR to handle their customers cars shows poor judgement, quality control and ultimately has to reflect poorly the broker. I complained directly to king of the road and have yet to hear any reply. So in my opinion this broker is just like any other that doesn't screen their truckers for quality.
